Sophomores, juniors, or seniors interested in a military career or career exploration in general? The tentative date for the ASVAB test is March 25 at JCHS. Please let Mrs. Caudill in the main office know by March 6 if you would like to take the ASVAB test so she can get materials ordered. The ASVAB CEP is a complete career planning program. Students are given the opportunity to take the ASVAB at no cost and no commitment to military service. The ASVAB CEP also provides an interest assessment and planning tools to help young adults explore career field entry requirements and various career paths, both military and civilian. High school students in grades 10, 11 and 12 and those enrolled at post-secondary institutions can participate in the ASVAB CEP. Students in 11th grade and beyond receive valid scores for enlistment. The ASVAB may be given in paper and pencil or computer adaptive forms. There are different strategies for taking the ASVAB, depending on which one your school offers. ASVAB CEP test results are sent to schools so participants can explore career options with counselors. The scores report how the student performed on each subtest area, and how their scores compare with others who took the test. Participants receive three composite scores in verbal, math and science/technical skills used for career exploration, and the AFQT score is also reported. Urgent message for seniors!!!! It has come to my attention many of you still haven’t filled out your FAFSA. This is a free application for the federal government to give you money to go to college or trade school. Even if you end up not going it is still important to have this filled out. You never know when you may decide to go back to school and at least your funding would be there. Big Sandy admissions advisors along with myself and anyone else I can get to help will be holding another FAFSA workshop on March 26th 1:00-5:00. From 1-3 Big Sandy will be here and then I am staying 1- 5 or ever how long it takes to get everyone taken care of. Make sure when you come you have a copy of your 2018 tax return. There is a sign-up sheet in the office for those still needing to get this filled out. Please sign-up so we can see how much help we need to get everyone taken care of. Sherrie Grierson/Senior Counselor

These are all things you may qualify for after you go to FAFSA.gov online and fill out your application. If you need help completing FAFSA please come and see me and I will help you get it completed.

Seniors! I currently have information for or have a copy of the following scholarship applications in my office: Appalachian Wireless Johnson County Republican Women BIACS (Bluegrass Indo American Cultural Society) Robinson Scholarship (first generation) deadlines 1/15 please act soon! This information was provided a couple of months ago, but I just wanted to remind seniors that are interested and qualify the deadline is quickly approaching. Still have information sheets on my office door about the application process. • I have been calling and talking to local businesses and organizations about scholarship opportunities and when I receive information I will pass it along to you. Keep checking your school email, school social media, and senior Facebook page. • Some of you have asked about the Big Sandy RECC Scholarship and I found out they are no longer offering the traditional scholarship. Instead they will be awarding students with scholarships for lineman school.

Juniors interested in taking the February 8 ACT: Our school was recently approached by ACT to POSSIBLY pilot online national testing in February. IF we get official confirmation that we can be a pilot site on February 8, the national test will be FREE to ALL JCHS juniors and closed to other grades and schools. Half of the examinees will be declared online testers and the other half will be paper/pencil testers. The decision of who will get what testing type would be predetermined by ACT, not JCHS. More information will be posted once it becomes available. Contact Mrs. Caudill with questions.
Parents of students registered for the AP Computer Science exam: Kentucky Department of Education has elected to fully fund the exam fees. JCHS AP Computer Science examinees were given refund checks for those fees this morning. What a nice surprise before Christmas!
Students registered for Saturday's ACT are required to present an official government photo ID at check in AND their printed admission ticket. Please see Mrs. Caudill if you need help printing your ticket or to have her prepare a photo ID for you.

Hey Seniors, can’t believe we are almost to the half way mark of your senior year. Here are some things you need to take care of if you haven’t already. 1. Complete FAFSA 2. Narrow down and apply to the schools you see as your final choice for fall and make sure they also have your transcript and test scores. Please comment, email, or message me if you need one sent somewhere. 3. Check with schools and make sure they have everything they need because December 1st is the cut off for academic scholarships meaning if you have a new or better ACT score you want them to consider they will need it before then. Otherwise your award will be based upon the transcript and scores they have currently. 4. Place your orders for Caps and gowns. This can only be done on Jostens website, by calling 1-800-Jostens, or mail in order form. I have additional order forms in my office. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy Tuesday from JCHS! We hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving! https://youtu.be/fGf7kF4wajo #Eagle4Life #Leadership #JCEaglePride #LeaderinMe #StudentVoices #Thankful

With the release of JCHS test scores today, we have a lot to celebrate, and we would like to share our biggest gains and accomplishments! - First, Johnson Central currently has over 300 students on track to earn an Honor’s Diploma (10 Pre-AP/AP/Dual Credit), and of these students who were tested last year, we are proud to announce that our Honor’s Diploma students earned an astounding overall index of 98.5, which is a 5-star performance based on new accountability system. GREAT JOB! - Second, we are also proud that our junior Honor’s Diploma students (a whopping 60 junior students in this program) averaged a 24.4 on the ACT last year. - Third, our transition readiness rate, which is the most important factor for students leaving high school and planning to pursue higher education, improved from 45.9 to 71.1 – a gain of approximately 26% in one year. Transition readiness is calculated by examining whether students earn college benchmarks or pass career readiness and industry certification exams. - Fourth, our on-demand scores were up significantly as we had 144 students whose writings were scored either Distinguished or Proficient. - Lastly, our graduation rate was up to 96.7% We at JCHS are extremely proud of our students, staff, and the multitude of programs we offer. We look forward to another great year and even more success from our students.
