The Johnson County School District recently had the honor of hosting esteemed guests from the Kentucky Department of Education (KDE): Interim Commissioner Robin Fields Kinney, Associate Commissioner David Couch, and KDE Board Member Steve Trimble. Their visit was a showcase of insightful discussions and comprehensive school tours, highlighting the district's dedication to educational excellence.

The day began with each guest providing important updates from the Kentucky Department of Education, setting the stage for a vibrant and insightful roundtable discussion. District leaders and guests exchanged views on a variety of educational initiatives and strategies, fostering a collaborative atmosphere.

The guests' personal connections to the district were a special part of the visit. Associate Commissioner David Couch, an alumnus of Porter Elementary and Johnson Central High School, fondly recounted his experiences as a student and athlete. He paid tribute to the significant influence of his mother, a former distinguished educator at Central Elementary, and reflected on the impact of his former teachers and classmates in shaping his successful journey. Similarly, KDE Board Member Steve Trimble, deeply rooted in Johnson County as a former student, athlete, coach, principal, and superintendent, expressed his profound affection for the district and its community.

The day also featured tours of schools, including Porter Elementary, Johnson Central High, and Johnson County Middle School.  These tours allowed the guests to directly experience the district's innovative educational practices and the dynamic learning environments of the schools.

As the visit concluded with a debrief at the Johnson County Board of Education, each member of the Kentucky Department of Education team took the opportunity to praise the district and Superintendent Cochran for his exceptional leadership. They commended his visionary approach and the significant progress made by the district under his guidance, further solidifying the district’s reputation for educational excellence.

The Johnson County School District extends its deepest gratitude to Interim Commissioner Robin Fields Kinney, Associate Commissioner David Couch, KDE Board Member Steve Trimble, and the Kentucky Department of Education for their steadfast support. A special thanks is also extended to Ms. Angie Music, Culinary Instructor, and her students for expertly catering lunch, which greatly contributed to the success of the day. Additionally, our heartfelt appreciation goes to our faculty, staff, and students, whose dedication and hard work were pivotal in making this visit both productive and memorable.
