Superintendent's Message

I am humbled and honored to have been selected as the Superintendent of the Johnson County School System. I look forward to continuing the outstanding traditions of our amazing district and will remain fully committed to serve every person and student in the Johnson County Schools community.

I have served the students in Johnson County for 19 years. Beginning my career as a special education teacher, I also have experience as a coach, assistant principal, head principal, as well as Director of Pupil Personnel. Now, as Superintendent, I could not be more excited for the year ahead, as well as proud of the outstanding students and devoted staff of this Distinguished School District.

The Johnson County Board of Education makes every effort to ensure that a quality education is available to our community. They continue to provide modern facilities and advanced technology for our students. Over the last few years, they have arranged for one-to-one Chromebook devices for each student 6th– 12th grade. This technology upgrade has been one of the most exciting and important opportunities I have seen for the students in Johnson County.

The Board of Education just voted to continue providing all students a free breakfast and lunch every day. We are proud to continue this opportunity and ask our students, with support of our parents, to help us sustain it by participating in every meal. The cooperation we received from our families in past years has been tremendous.

Our goal is to make a difference in the future of our students. With so many well trained faculty and staff, Johnson County has enjoyed a myriad of academic, athletic and extra-curricular successes. We not only want to help our students excel in the classroom, but also enjoy their educational career. Assisting our students to become college, career and life ready can only be achieved with strengthened relationships with our students, staff, parents and community partners, as we work together encouraging pride, respect, and great memories of their experiences in Johnson County.

Please enjoy our Johnson County Schools’ website, but do not hesitate to contact my office or any staff member of Johnson County Schools if you have any questions regarding joining our Eagle family.

Pride, Respect, and Courage,

Superintendent Thom Cochran
