Johnsonn County Schools Superintendent Thom Cochran was praised by the Johnson County Schools Board of Education on Monday, Feb. 28, during the board’s regular meeting.
The meeting’s agenda included an item to approve a summative evaluation of Cochran’s performance, as is required of the board periodically.
The board unanimously approved a motion to accept the report, which was not read in detail, but board Chairman Bob Hutchison took a moment to further compliment Cochran’s performance in the role.
“I’d like to add, briefly, that Mr. Cochran has done an outstanding job with the school system, with his leadership, his ability to handle many programs,” Hutchison said, adding that he felt the board could continue to trust Cochran with the future of the school system.
“Moving forward, some of our biggest challenges are not today, they’re tomorrow, and we think we have the best person to lead us into the future of the Johnson County School System,” Hutchison continued. “So, thank you, Mr. Cochran for everything. The commitments and the sacrifices you’ve made, and we want to express our sincere gratitude to your family for allowing us to have you serve the way you do. Thank you.”
Cochran thanked Hutchison for the recognition and Hutchison spoke highly of the rest of the administration.
“I would like to add that all of our administrators are good, and everybody that’s in this school system contributes. We don’t want anybody to think they’re not,” Hutchison said. “I’d like to thank (board member) Melvin Vanhoose for everything that he’s done, we’ve got some hurdles to cross with the new school coming up and his wisdom is going to be instrumental, I think, moving forward, (board member) Willard Burton has brought a lot to the table so far with athletics and academics, P.R. Greer has been a plus for this school board and William Fraley has always been a contributor.
“We just work together well as a team, but we work for you all, we work for Mr. Cochran, we work for this county and this school system,” Hutchison continued. “So, if you ever have any issues, please let Mr. Cochran know.”
The Johnson County Schools Board of Education meets on the last Monday of each month at 5 p.m. at the district’s central administrative offices on the JCHS and Johnson County Middle School campuses and all meetings are open to the public.
