Parents of 10th and 11th graders, End of year testing info has been posted in the grade level google classrooms. Have your child log in and let you see their test dates and room locations. If there is a scheduling conflict, please let micca.caudill@johnson.kyschools.us know so we can change their test session. More kiddos will be added to the lists as time goes on. The large majority have been scheduled though.

While Paintsville may be a small town, two 1996 Johnson Central High School graduates were prominently featured at the recent Grammy Awards held in Las Vegas. JCHS Alum and country music sensation Chris Stapleton recorded a clean sweep at the recent 64th Annual Grammy Awards, winning every category in which he was nominated. Stapleton won for Best Country Solo Performance in the pre-telecast then won Best Country Song and Best Country Album for Starting Over during the main telecast. He also gave the audience both at home and in Vegas chills as he performed “Cold” live. Stapleton, an eight-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter and musician graduated JCHS in 1996 as co-valedictorian of his senior class. Fellow 1996 graduate and musician Jesse Wells, who is part of Tyler Childers and The Food Stamps, received his first Grammy nomination this year. Childers and Wells co-produced the album The Long Violent History, which was nominated for Best Folk Album. The Johnson County School district is humbled and amazed by all the talent that graduates from our schools, and we are beyond proud of both Chris and Jesse.

JCHS Freshmen listened to Dr. Alex Elswick, University of Kentucky Assistant Extension Professor, tell his story of addiction and how he overcame with the help of connections he made throughout his life. He emphasized the importance of making connections with people and organizations to ensure that one is not isolated. At Johnson Central, we are intentional about helping students find their place and make connections both in and out of the classroom. Students who have strong connections to their school are more likely to be successful and graduate on time. At Johnson Central, we #LeadWithCulture and our Freshmen Students have #MoreOpportunity @barrcenter #barr22 #BARRschool

A big congratulations to Brooklynne Arms and Zoe Castle. Both girls have received the very prestigious national scholarship from the Hagan Foundation. The Foundation has thousands of applicants across the nation all hoping to graduate college debt free. Recipients are also awarded a schwab brokerage account and are required to attend workshops on how to invest and manage their money. Truly a remarkable honor to have two students receive this scholarship.
